Conch House

Nestled among the pines of coastal Maine, Conch House is a thoughtfully renovated craftsman cottage that honors the character of the original home while introducing a fresh, timeless aesthetic for modern living. Surrounded by woods and natural light, the home feels deeply connected to its landscape.

Original details, including exposed timber beams and generous windows overlooking the forest, informed the design throughout. Warm woods, natural stone, layered textures, and soft neutrals create a sense of ease and authenticity.

At the heart of the renovation is the kitchen, designed to feel both functional and enduring. Modern shaker cabinetry, soapstone countertops, unlacquered brass, richly textured tile, and handcrafted ceramic lighting bring warmth and character while staying true to the home's craftsman roots. The kitchen opens into the living area, where a wood-burning stove and views of the surrounding woods create a cozy gathering space for every season.

Some of the home's most meaningful details tell the story of its owners. Inspired by the homeowner's work in marine conservation and efforts to regenerate conch shell populations, fossilized coral sconces from Marovo Island add organic texture, warmth, and a subtle connection to the natural world.

The result is a modern craftsman retreat that feels collected rather than decorated—rooted in its setting, personal to its owners, and grounded in the beauty of natural materials.
